Cleaning

Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential not only for a bright smile but also for your overall health. Routine dental checkups and professional cleanings can help prevent various oral and general health issues.
Brushing regularly with proper technique helps remove plaque bacteria from the teeth. However, even with daily brushing and flossing, tartar (hardened plaque) can build up—especially in areas that are hard to reach. This is why professional teeth cleaning is important. It includes scaling, polishing, and sometimes deep cleaning (debridement) if tartar has accumulated excessively.
Between visits to the dentist, practicing good oral care at home helps prevent tooth decay, tartar build-up, and gum disease.
Gum disease is an infection of the tissues that support your teeth. If untreated, it can lead to serious problems, including bone loss. Consistent dental cleanings and proper home care are key to preventing it.
There are two stages of gum disease:
-
Gingivitis: The early, milder stage. It causes red, swollen gums that may bleed during brushing. Since it’s usually painless, many people don’t realize they have it.
-
Periodontitis: A more serious stage where the infection spreads deeper, damaging the bone and tissues around the teeth. This can cause gums to recede, teeth to loosen, or even fall out.
To maintain healthy teeth and gums, we recommend brushing and flossing at least twice a day and scheduling professional dental cleanings every six months. Your dental health is an investment, so it’s important to choose a trusted family dentist for your entire household.
